Setback

Today we faced a setback in Isaac’s recovery. He had another temp spike this morning and they gave some motrin and some nutrients to try and control it. That didn’t work well. After labs were taken, they discovered Isaac has an infection in his blood. They are conducting cultures to try and determine what the infection is. His temp got real high and he had another episode of violent chills/shaking. They started him on a broad antibiotic and used ice packs to control his temp. We very thankful tonight during the visit to find the temp had decreased to 99.5 and he was resting well. We had a sweet time of quiet worship and prayer in his room tonight. I know God is holding Isaac in his right hand. We can only trust in him. The nurses on the floor have been such a blessing. When we forgot the words to one of the songs, one joined in to keep us on track. She did that and was still able to draw blood. Amen! We were so blessed to hear that several nurses have shared what God has been doing in them through all of this. The testimony of everyone praying, those gathered in the waiting room joining hands in prayer and those praying in Isaac’s room has been convicting several to pursue a stronger walk and faith. One nurse said she is going to start going to church again. Thank you, Jesus.

It’s a very hard place we are in right now, but we are seeing God glorified in so many ways. Please pray the doctors can identify the infection and treat it. Of course, God simply removing the infection would be a huge praise as well. We prayed tonight that God would transfuse Isaac’s blood with the spotless blood of the lamb. Do Your work, Lord. The infection and extra medicine in Isaac’s system can prove to be a setback for Isaac. We’re praying that God will continue to heal and restore Isaac’s mind even while the other things have become the priority for doctor’s to focus on. Thanks for keeping Isaac in the throneroom of grace by your prayers. We believe in You, Lord. Heal Isaac.

Silvia is doing better. I spoke with her uncle and he shared she may be able to leave in a week. Thank you, Lord.

Thank you for standing in the gap for Isaac. You’re an incredible blessing!

God’s Heart – Isaac’s Passion

I want to share with you a video that Isaac showed us before he left for YWAM. The link is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XRqDmDohTLM. This video is from a DTS Lecture in Oxford, New Zealand. I believe it represents Isaac’s heart well, and the passion he has to continually be transformed and challenged in faith and obedience for God’s purpose. Throughout the past six months Isaac shared with us many of the testimonies of what God was doing in him, and through him for God’s glory. Kris and I have been extremely challenged by our son’s pursuit of God. God uses the message in the DTS lecture entitled DECISIONS THAT DEFINE US to constantly pull at my heart and stretch my walk with Him. Isaac gave testimonies about complete surrender and obedience to God to be used for Him each and every day; a breaking of self for God’s ultimate glory.
In Romans chapter 12, Paul urges us to offer our bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God, as our spiritual act of worship. I know that Isaac’s worship to God extended way beyond his ministry in music. Below is something he wrote that I found in his Bible:

I’m placing my heart on Your altar
Cut away the things that don’t bring glory (not of You)
I’m placing my life on Your altar
Let me be a living sacrifice

You have washed me
You have washed me
You have cleaned my heart

Let me not be blinded by sin
Let your Spirit reign in me
Holy Father
Let Your light come
Let Your light come

Isaac told us about how God told him several days in a row to go stand in the streets of Melbourne Australia and simply ask people if they needed prayer. On one of the days, he prayed for a man who had been badly beaten and could hardly lift his arms. A short time later, he saw the man down the street talking to others and moving his arms fully and pointing toward Isaac and the young lady who was ministering with him. The next day the man brought another for prayer. Then Isaac shared about a man who was bitter toward God and brought his friend in a wheel chair. The friend had been run over by a tram and was disfigured and unable to speak. The man challenged Isaac, “Can you heal him?” Isaac said, “I can’t, but God can.” He assured the man that it is within God’s power to heal the man if God chooses, then he and the girl prayed for the friend in the wheel chair. Even as they were praying the man began to make movement with his mouth trying to speak. He had not done this since the accident. The man’s heart was softened and expressed that he wanted to go back to church and start trusting God again. Isaac sent him names and contact info for some churches in the area.

We are all being stretched throughout this hard trial, but we are believing that God will heal Isaac and even give us a greater belief and testimony in his sovereignty and power! What a testimony it will be. Still, we are praising God for calling so many people before Him daily, earnestly petitioning on Isaac’s behalf. I know we are all being challenged and strengthened to tell the story of God’s power. Thank you for being the church of Acts, and not just reading about it. God is giving us a testimony of healing and God’s unfailing love and grace. We struggle sometimes with the “what if” question, but trust that God’s best plan for Isaac is being manifested. Let your decisions today define who you are in Christ, and even greater, who He is in and through you. Blessings!

Isaac Update

Good news! Isaac had a good day today resting a lot. Last night his feeding tube got clogged so the nurses took it out, but now they can’t get it back in because Isaac is too scrappy and doesn’t like it. So today he was completely off med’s. He slept during the whole morning visit, but this afternoon his Occupational Therapist (an awesome Christian lady!) came in and worked with him. With help, they got him to stand up for a bit. She tested him to see if he would respond to hot and cold things, which he did. He was really irritated with the cold, and when she asked him which was which he mouthed the words, “Hot… Cold.” She was blown away and really positive when she gave us the update.

Then his Speech Therapist came to give him a swallow test to see if he could eat on his own. She was kinda skeptical I think when she asked him to open his mouth to eat the piece of ice – but he did it! He opened his mouth, and chewed the ice when asked to. He swallowed when asked to, and he tried to open his eyes. The therapist is going to let us start giving him ice, but first she has to give him some medicine to get ride of the “Thrush” in his mouth. Also, when the therapist touched his eye brows he opened his eyes and looked around. He looked at his dad, and Grandma Jo, and me, and then when the therapist called his name he looked at her. He wasn’t conscious, but all this is progress! God is good and is moving in Isaac’s body – healing him. Tonight he has a high fever of 102 and had a terrible shaking episode just before we left. It was related to the fever, and not his brain condition, but it still makes us uneasy.

His nurses have done a great job! God continues to surround Isaac with Christian nurses, and we’re so grateful for them. We have been blessed.

Please pray for his fever to leave and his temp to get back to normal. Pray for the Dr.’s to be able to get the feeding tube back in so Isaac can get the nutrition he needs seeing as his body burns LOTS of calories while his brain repairs. He needed a lot of food before this! 🙂

And continue to pray for him to come back to consciousness! THAT IS THE BIGGEST
THING!

I know that it gets easy to kinda relax in our prayers when things don’t SEEM so desperate. But please realize they are! Isaac has a very long recovery ahead of him, but we are still trusting God for complete healing. I feel like God’s been putting it on my heart to encourage you to keep praying earnestly and seriously! This battle isn’t against the things we see, it’s not in the hands of Dr.’s or nurses really – it’s a spiritual battle and only Christ has the victory.

Please keep praying for Isaac’s protection! Thank you all so much! Be encouraged – our Lord hears you and is acting!
God bless

Here’s Kristi!

The flames of hope were fanned yet again today as we watched Isaac move forward in healing. Thank you God for being our ever present help in time of need! Kristi is submitting the update for Isaac tonight. While she is doing that I thought I’d take a moment to introduce her to you. I know I may have confused some when my postings referred to Kristi and Kris. You know my lovely wife, Kris, but you may not know Kristi. I know Isaac would be anxious to tell you about her, so I want to share his excitement in his stead. Isaac met Kristi Dormaier during the Youth with a Mission Disciple Training School in New Zealand. She is from Washington state. Kristi shares with Isaac the incredible passion for song writing, worship, and sharing God’s love and good news with anyone she meets. God shines brightly in and through her. They wrote the song FOR THE DAWN together in New Zealand. As Isaac would say, she is the angelic voice you hear singing the song with him. After much prayer and time seeking God’s will, God knitted their hearts together and set in them a hope and future for serving God together. Isaac introduced us to Kristi via Skype from New Zealand and spoke warmly about her upon his arrival home. He planned to move in a couple months to Washington to begin the next chapter of life and ministry with Kristi. God has given them a sincere, pure love for each other. As soon as Kristi heard of the accident, she flew here to Lubbock to be by Isaac’s side to cotinually intercede for him and cover him with the words of God. She is a beautiful young woman of God. Her family is sacrificing so much for her to be here. They only had one day with her following her return from New Zealand. We are so grateful for her presence here, she is very much a part of our family already. Please pray for her as she seeks God and loves Isaac through this most difficult trial. Please pray that God will heal Isaac and let them realize the Hope and Future He has set in their hearts. Lord make it so.

A Good Day

We had a good day with Isaac. His room in the pediatrics section is nice and quiet. Isaac has still not awakened completely. We were greatly encouraged when the occupational and physical therapists worked with him a little this morning. He did pretty good sitting up on the side of the bed and he did stand up by his own strength. Rise up O man of God! We received a good lecture from the therapist who let us know how we have been overstimulating Isaac, without fully knowing it. We corrected that today with single points of touch, a quieter setting, one voice speaking at time, etc. We noticed tonight that he seemed much more rested, and even had his eyes partially open and blinking for a large part of the evening. Praise the Lord! We are trusting God that Isaac will regain consciousness soon so that rehab can begin. We are believing God for a miracle in Isaac Godwin! Thank you, Jesus.

I spoke with Joseph’s family today. Joseph is doing good; he is awake and his bleeding has stopped. His father thanked us for the prayers. Way to go prayer warriors! Silvia is also better today. She is still expected to be in the hospital another two weeks, but her family said she is much better. Nathan will find out the results of the C scan on Monday. Please pray for God’s Spirit to be present; His Spirit is not a Spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind. Amen! Bless you all.

Holding On

We are so thankful that Hannah was able to join us in Lubbock Monday and Tuesday. It provided a good opportunity for us all as a family to spend with Isaac. Please pray for her as she starts back to school at WTA&M this morning. This has been a very hard trial we are going through. I have been finding comfort in the words God told Isaac in the song CHILD OF MINE; “My love will never die, and I will not hide my face from you.” Sometimes we are so focused on the overall state we see Isaac is in that we are distracted from rejoicing in the daily triumphs God is providing. God gathered Kris, Kristi and I together in the hospital chapel last night just to pour over us and remind us that He is unfailing. We need to place our focus on Him and what he is most assuredly doing, and going to do in Isaac’s mind and body. God told us in Hebrews chapter 10, “Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.” We get so desperate for Isaac to awaken and be completely whole that we forget to give God praise for the daily triumphs leading to that wholeness and absolute recovery. “Lord, we are hoping for Isaac’s complete healing. Thank you Lord that Isaac opened his eyes partially at different times yesterday. Thank you that he is breathing so well, his blood gases are good, he is strong and moving so much in bed, and that he is able to take big yawns and cough to clear his airway. Thank you that he is able to respond on command much of the time for the nurses. Lord, you are giving him breath! We are praying believing for the yet unseen, Isaac being completely whole, living out the hope and future you’ve given him: A will to obey you, a work to do, an incredible young woman of God to love, and a world to reach for you! Make it so, Lord. Amen.”

Thank you for your fervent prayers and support. It is overwhelming to see how God is moving in His body, the church, to speak into and minister to our family. You are amazing! Thank you for your continued prayers. We are seeing God move. Even the charge nurse last night told us that. Please continue to pray the Teague family, for God’s comfort and embrace. Pray for Silvia; she seemed a little better yesterday. Also, we need to lift up a young man named Joseph. His family was very distraught last night in the ICU waiting room. Joseph is 21 years old, and was ran over by a vehicle last night while walking across the street. I asked his father if we could pray for them and he accepted the invitation. About 12 of us gathered to pray with this family. I pray they see Jesus move in their son as we are seeing him present in ours. Lastly, please lift up my brother, Nathan. He has undergone treatment and surgery for cancer. The tumor proved to be the most aggressive type there is, so they are going to do another C scan today to ensure there are no other tumors in his body. We are trusting God! NOTE: Isaac has been moved to the SICU in the Pediatrics section on the second floor. Visiting hours are the same: 09:30-12:30, 3:30-5:30 pm, 8:00 – 10:00 p.m.

Thumbs Up!

Praising God tonight for a great visit with Isaac. He is breathing well and looks wonderful. During the break his nurse tested his responses again. He gave a thumbs up and showed the number two! His rating for level of consciousness went from a 7 to 10; 15 is the best. God is incredible! He is doing an amazing work in Isaac. We are trusting that God will wake Isaac soon. We are praying that all of his memories, gifts, talents, skills, body functions and faculties are complete and whole. Thank you so much for your prayers. God is hearing and answering our petitions from heaven. What an awesome God we serve! Thank you, Lord for Your unfailing love!

Please pray for Silvia. She is in the ICU room beside Isaac. She has been there several days and is having a difficult time. We had the opportunity to pray with her and her family tonight.

We’re excited to see what God will do tomorrow. Pursue God! He’s crazy about us.

Breath!

We are praising God for His unfailing love! The doctors pulled Isaac off the respirator to do some more pulmonary tests prior to surgery today. He was on the respirator all day Sunday, because they pulled out the chest tube and wanted to ensure the lungs were being fully expanded to prevent infection. Isaac had a slow start this morning with breathing on his own, but then God gave him breath! The doctors watched and tested him, then determined they would extubate him, removing the respirator completely. He is breathing fabulously and is not expected to have the tracheotomy. He is so relaxed now since the tubes have been removed. He can’t lay still in bed . . . He who Christ set free is free indeed; even when he’s confined to a bed. They were going to draw blood to check his levels to ensure he was getting a good exchange of O2 but didn’t even have to perform the test because of how well he was doing. Just following the extubation, he opened his eyes twice for me; just momentarily, but enough to fan into flames our hope for his soon awakening. The nurse said he opened his eyes a couple of times for her this afternoon. One time he was facing to the right and turned to her on the left when she called his name. God is doing a miraculous work in, and through, Isaac. There is quite a cheer team amidst the workers in the ICU. The have been wonderful in allowing us to sing praises, pray, read the Word, and even play guitar in Isaac’s room. I know God is present, and is being felt by everyone that even comes close to his room. We are overwhelmed by the move of God and the calling to attention the many churches and thousands of believers worldwide to intercede on behalf of Isaac, Hannah, Kristi and all of our family. I was told that the Clovis Christian School held a 1-hr prayer vigil this morning, praying specifically and expecting to see God move. He did! Thanks to all of you who are standing in the gap for our family and the Teague family. Your love and prayers are helping to see us through this most difficult time in our lives. We don’t know what we are facing next, but we know that when we just seek the face of God, He will see us through it in His most awesome way! We are trusting Him for a complete healing in Isaac’s mind and body. We have been praying Ps 20 over Isaac daily, as well as Ps 33, 34, 118, and many more. Thank you for the fervent, effectual prayers. We love you deeply . . . God loves you more! Receive His unfailing love to see you through whatever you are facing today. He hears your cries and petitions, and will answer from heaven. “We wait in hope for the Lord; he is our help and our shield. In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. May your unfailing love rest upon us, O Lord, even as we put our hope in you.” (Ps 33:20-22)

Prayer Requests

Isaac is doing well on his breathing, but he’s still not responding like he should be to commands. The Dr.s have decided that it’s best to put in the Trach (breathing tube that goes in his neck) and Peg (like a feeding tube directly to his stomach.) This will allow him to heal quicker, get off some of the pain meds, and he’s less likely to get infections. It’s a positive thing. So pray for a good surgery tomorrow, that God will guide the Dr.s and protect Isaac! (specially his vocal chords!) Also, keep praying for his fever. It’s not bad, but it’s a bit high. We had a good worship time with him tonight and there was lots of peace in the room. God is good and He is hearing all your faithful prayers! Please keep it up! Thank you all 🙂 God bless
